The CFMTA was formed in 1935 and is a national association of qualified private music instructors. Its purpose is to promote and maintain high standards of teaching among its members and to foster music excellence in its students.
The CFMTA offers its members national conventions, high quality workshops, performance opportunities for students, scholarships for students, a comprehensive journal published three times a year, and contact with other arts organizations across Canada. Their programs include biannual national competitions as well as a Young Artist Series, and a biannual performing tour that serves to further the careers of aspiring young musicians.
